#SHRM13 Stands for Party

Party on, human resource professionals. You guys do it well.

I’m writing this as I fight the urge to go hide in a bathroom stall and take an eight to ten hour nap. Because last night was wild.

It was totally unexpected, like a pinch hitter for the Milwaukee Brewers hitting a game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the ninth of game seven in the World Series against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium.

Totally unexpected, but an undeniable fact: human resources people know how to party.

Our publishing company, MediaTec Publishing, held a very nice cocktail party at a restaurant overlooking the Chicago River after day two of the Society for Human Resource Management convention. Following that, a few of us moved about fifty yards away to the House of Blues for Glassdoor’s own afterparty. I expected it to be a good time, but there was no way I could’ve guessed how the night would turn out.

DJ Jazzy Jeff, Will Smith’s buddy from his “Fresh Prince” days, provided enough early ’90s dance music to get anybody shakin’. Probably didn’t even need music at all though. It just seemed like those few hundred HR professionals were going to be dancing no matter what.

There’s really no tie in to the human resources profession, or any insightful take-away I can give you in this blog post. I honestly felt like the party last night was (somewhat) newsworthy for some reason. And basically, I just want to give credit where credit is due. That’s all.

So, party on, human resource professionals. You guys do it well.
