2015 Optimas Awards Winners
Workforce congratulates the winners of the 2015 Optimas Awards.
As the Workforce Optimas Awards turn 25 this year, let’s take a step back and reflect on the values the award is designed to celebrate. To do that, we don’t have to look much further than the name itself: Optimas. It’s Latin for good men of a high breed, people who are sought out for leadership and guidance.
The programs that this year’s winners have implemented should be highly regarded for those very reasons. They all faced challenges with a sense of purpose and an understanding of their individual corporate cultures that ultimately helped them succeed.
The Affordable Care Act presented a challenge for some employers, but this year’s winners rose to the occasion by designing benefits and rewards programs that attract and retain top talent for their specific organizations. From including same-sex spouses in benefits coverage to tweaking their offerings in recognition of differing cultural values in the regions they expanded to globally, these companies used benefits to their advantage.
This year’s General Excellence winner, WVU Medicine, truly embodies the concept in all arenas. To develop and staff a special events readiness program to deal with a potential outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus, a multidisciplinary team was formed that included representatives from departments ranging from human resources to information technology. The leadership the organization’s HR team demonstrated allowed employees with vastly different skill sets to work together to achieve a major goal.
