The announcement, made Monday, August 11, noted that O’Neil, who was senior vice president and chief human resources officer at Kaiser Permanente, will take over as SHRM’s new leader October 1.
SHRM’s board of directors unanimously chose O’Neil after a lengthy six-month national search that included more than 400 potential candidates following the January resignation of Susan Meisinger. O’Neil has held executive-level human resources and corporate positions at profit and not-for-profit organizations, both in the United States and overseas.
“I am honored to be joining this esteemed global organization at an exciting time of growth for the human resources profession,” said O’Neil. “I’ve seen first-hand how HR professionals can make the critical difference in an organization's ability to compete and succeed. I am dedicated to strengthening the society’s commitment to the profession and to the people who fulfill this essential mission around the world every day.”
