Given the results of a recent study showing that more than eight out of 10 companies that recently changed leaders selected a replacement from their own management ranks, succession planning and recognizing potential is a major issue for companies.

Even more attention must be paid to finding well-qualified replacements internally and developing future corporate leaders. Though many large organizations already implement programs to develop executive talent, the trends uncovered by recent research indicate that such programs will assume increased strategic importance in the near future.
