Realizing that ambitious global growth goals couldn’t be reached without a bigger workforce, engineering and design firm Delcan Corp. embarked on a plan to hire quality workers while retaining their best employees. Leaders, however, quickly learned that the talent pool was small, and competition was fierce. Worse, they discovered valued employees were leaving La Palma, California-based Delcan.
The human resources and marketing departments joined forces with Delcan’s Principles Leadership Council to stem the exodus while beefing up its workforce. How? Communicate. And then communicate some more. Delcan launched its employee communication program in 2011. Through a variety of clever yet simple initiatives, Delcan executives saw turnover dwindle to 3 percent while new hires jumped by 10 percent through a lucrative employee referral program.
Employees are recognized for their efforts. Business wins are celebrated. Collaboration is a priority. The effort has led to a greater employee connection and loyalty to the organization.
For its successful employee communications program, Delcan is the winner of the silver Optimas Award for Business Impact.
