Voluntary benefits have long added value for both employers and employees, but their impact has gained considerable traction in the last several years. One telling example is that more than half of employees surveyed in MetLife’s 11th Annual Employee Benefit Trends Study (62%) report that they are interested in having their employer provide a wider array of voluntary benefits than is currently offered. The desire is especially true for younger workers and does not vary significantly by company size. In striking contrast, when asked why they do not offer more voluntary benefits, 25% of employers cited a lack of interest from employees.
