When Jamie Trabbic joined HCR ManorCare in March 2011, learning came with her. Charged with creating a learning culture, she didn’t start the project willy-nilly.
Instead, Trabbic, 32, began by analyzing the state of the company’s developmental programs through more than 150 one-on-one interviews, focus groups with 32 learning professionals and 650 online survey responses.
Trabbic developed a three-pronged approach that focused on people, process and technology. She gathered a learning council made up of members from every functional area in the company, as well as developed the company’s first learning services department that reported directly through operations instead of through HR in order to better achieve the chief operating officer’s vision.
The extensive research she performed also pointed the way to HCR ManorCare’s learning management system, and she launched it to complete the trifecta and solidify a strong learning culture at the organization.
