Health care staffing firms may qualify for access to the National Practitioner Data Bank, a national database with information on disciplinary actions and other matters taken against doctors, nurses and other health care providers.

Information includes medical malpractice payments, license revocations, license suspensions, reprimands and adverse clinical privileging actions. The database is run through the Department of Health and Human Services.

“We are pleased that health care staffing firms will now have access to the NPDB,” said Mark Stagen, president of the National Association of Travel Healthcare Organizations and CEO of Emerald Health Services. “This will enable our industry to continue providing the highest-quality health care professionals to our clients.”

To access the databank, an organization must be a hospital, a professional society that follows a formal peer review process or a health care entity that provides health care services and follows a formal peer review process. Staffing firms could qualify in the health care entity category.
