A new report from MDRC shows that "Career Academies are one of the few youth-focused interventions that have been found to improve the labor market prospects of young men."

Career Academies combine academic and technical coursework around a career theme, such as finance, and include partnerships with employers.

The study concludes that "Career Academies substantially improved the labor market prospects of young men, a group that has experienced a severe decline in real earnings in recent years." Graduates earn more and have more stable jobs.

The impact on young women was neither positive nor negative.

As for the men, students most at risk of dropping out showed the greatest benefits from the program.
