Survey after survey conducted by information technology firms confirms that employee use of personal devices in the workplace is widespread and that most organizations are embracing this "consumerization of IT." A recent survey of 605 U.S. IT and business leaders, conducted by Cisco Systems Inc., showed that 84 percent of respondents not only allow employees to bring their own devices to work, but also provide some level of technical support.
Executives and business-unit leaders recognize that the trend to bring your own device to work, also known as BYOD, is benefiting their organizations giving employees greater access to services and information and increasing their productivity and satisfaction. Cisco has attempted to quantify the advantages of BYOD, estimating annual benefits of
$300 to $1,300 per employee.
