A majority of independent consultants--69 percent--say the use of a flexible workforce is a permanent change and not a temporary response to economic conditions, according to a survey released by M Squared Consulting.
The survey also found that 81 percent of independent consultants are satisfied or extremely satisfied with their career choice, and 73 percent would remain a consultant if given the choice to return to traditional, full-time employment.
In addition, the survey found 42 percent of independent consultants reported that their 2011 revenue increased over 2010. And 55 percent say their revenue will increase in 2012.
The online M Squared poll of independent consultants was conducted in December 2011 and included responses from 530 professional independent consultants.
M Squared is based in San Francisco. Its Collabrus subsidiary provides independent contractor compliance and payrolling services.
