Urgent Care of Connecticut, an ambulatory-care organization dedicated to walk-in medical care, earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for accreditation, a national symbol of quality in performance standards.

It wasn’t easy. In 2012, the organization realized its patient-satisfaction scores, repeat customers and community reputation were not enough to differentiate Urgent Care of Connecticutits clinics from peer organizations. A team assembled from all aspects of the business: head of operations, head of human resources, a doctor, a nurse and even an X-ray technician.

They divided up more than 1,000 standards to evaluate the organization’s compliance.

The Brookfield, Connecticut-based organization now has more clinic visits, patient-satisfaction scores have improved, and the organization is one of 36 independently owned-and-operated urgent-care centers with Joint Commission accreditation.

For its efforts in gaining accreditation, Urgent Care of Connecticut is the winner of the silver Optimas Award for Partnership.
