The Society for Human Resource Management has had its share of big-name speakers to open its annual conference, and this year is no different.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is kicking off the SHRM 2013 Annual Conference & Exposition, which takes place June 16 to 19 in Chicago. She will be joined by journalist and CNN host Fareed Zakaria. The opening session is scheduled for Sunday, June 16, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. CT.

"We are excited about it because while in public office she worked on issues that HR cares about: employment, military veterans and health care reform," says SHRM spokeswoman Kate Kennedy. "As a U.S. senator, Sec. Clinton served on the Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions and on the Subcommittee on Employment and Workplace Safety—panels that have jurisdiction over the many federal employment laws that SHRM members implement in their organizations each day."

Other keynote speakers include Blake Mycoskie, founder and of Toms Shoes, who will speak on June 17; best-selling author Daniel Pink on June 18; and former U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords and her husband, Navy Capt. Mark Kelly, on June 19.

The conference's June 18 evening concert will feature singer and American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson.

The conference, which is the world's largest gathering of HR professionals, is being held at McCormick Place. Last year's conference in Atlanta drew about 14,000 attendees.
