2013 Game Changer: Jenifer Golden
Director of operations, H&M Communications, West Hollywood, California
Jenifer Golden is an actor besides an HR executive—and she has shown she can perform on and off the stage.
Golden joined public relations firm H&M Communications five years ago as a part-time executive assistant pursuing a career in show business. The 28-year-old hasn’t given up on her acting career, but she has progressed at H&M to become director of operations.
Her duties include overseeing human resources for the 30-employee firm. She has turned heads by instituting an apprenticeship program for college students that goes beyond typical internships and their often menial tasks. H&M’s program pairs students with senior mentors and immerses them in client campaign efforts such as drafting press materials, conducting media outreach and developing social media strategies. Of the 22 apprentices that have graduated from the program, nine have joined the firm as full-time employees.
Golden also has implemented work-life balance programs that have reduced employee absenteeism by more than 70 percent, according to H&M. Company founder Etienne Hernandez-Medina couldn’t be happier that she gave this aspiring actor a chance to shine in people management: “Jenifer is a force to be reckoned with.”
