Superstorm Sandy forced many businesses to shutter this week.

To prepare for the hurricane, a number of companies in New York and along the Eastern Seaboard made the decision to close before the storm hit. Some have reopened, but many remain closed or in limited operation.

The Society for Human Resource Management and the Occupational Safety & Health Administration have outlined some essential policies and procedures for HR professionals related to people management during and after a natural disaster.
