For HR managers who may need to refresh their memory banks on how Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 helps protect employees against discrimination, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Web site is worth visiting. The protections include those against discrimination based on race or perceived racial group in recruiting, hiring and advancement, and against classification based on race or color, such as in the area of work assignments. In the 2007 fiscal year, the commission received more than 30,000 charges of race discrimination, its Web site says. The information on the site can help employers ensure that they are in compliance with Title VII.
