The majority of my company's hourly workforce (manufacturing environment) now have 4 weeks vacation. Due to budget/manning cuts, we are very lean. Typically each department supervisor can only allow 1 or 2 employees to be on vacation on the same day. This policy is now becoming hard to manage since so many of our employees now have 4 weeks. We currently enfore a "use it or lose it" vacation policy (January - December). One option that we are considering is mandatory plant shutdowns. Any suggestions on how to handle vacation situations such as this?
