While being counseled for performance, an employee stated that she was diagnosed as bipolar. The position she is in is very sensitive and carries liability for the company, so we asked that she produce a certification from her doctor that she is able to perform her job duties before she could return to work. It took nearly a week to get the note from her doctor. She is now asking that we pay her for the days she was off while waiting for the note, stating that was out of her control. She does not have any paid time off yet becasue she is too new to the company. I am not inclined to pay her for this time off; any thoughts?
