How to Identify Dishonesty within Your Business
1) Hire carefully. Credit and reference checks, along with multiple interviews, will allow you to identify possible problem employees without making a hiring mistake.2)Cover your legal bases. If you're concerned about certain workplace behaviors, such as employees using company time or equipment improperly, put those rules in the employee handbook and make sure everyone knows about them. If you have valuable intellectual property, make sure everyone signs non-disclosure or other appropriate agreements.3) Buy insurance. If you're not able to prevent all dishonest behavior, you can at least make sure that you're financially protected.4) Structure your organization to minimize risk. Rather than put one person in charge of accounting, make sure that multiple sets of eyes are monitoring all important transactions, even if that means overseeing major financial decisions yourself.
