Re: Tips on How to Create a Mentor Program
I wish mentorship programs were available back when I was just a start up in my career. I have had experienced being a mentor a couple of times though. The Hiring Manager assigns a Mentor to the newly hired staff to provide support and supplement team of managers, supervisors, colleagues who work towards a common goal: ensuring that the new employee feel welcome and the have the resources to find any answers they need to have smooth transition to 3c’s – company, career and culture.
The objectives include:
Develop a relationship between mentor and mentee. The mentor and mentee should identify their expectations and the expected outcomes of participating in the program.
Support the ongoing orientation process for new employees. In addition to the first day orientation, the New Employee Orientation (NEO), and the supervisor’s ongoing orientation, the mentoring program helps new employees acclimate to their jobs and work environment.
Help ease mentees into their new job and reduce the stress associated with this transition. By offering their support and experience, mentors can help mentees more quickly make this transition.
Provide access to resources. Mentors serve as guides in directing mentees to all the available resources for employees at 360training.
Serve as a source of information and encouragement. Due to their work experience at 360training, mentors can share their expertise and experiences during the initial months of employment.
Ensure a good start for the employee, avoid possible miscommunication, and create a sense of belonging and being part of the team.
Provide the development of good job-specific practices.
