Since the gas prices have soared to over $4.00 a gallon is your company going to letting your employees telecommute? If so, how many days and what criteria do you use? Has it been successful?

I would love to hear from you.

We have allowed it with the one emloyee who asked. She requested and was granted working from home one day a week. It has not been a problem so far.

We are letting some employees telecommute. It has to be prearranged. They have to fill out a form and identify the barriers and offer solutions.
We let them telecommute about one day per week to start with.

We have had to stress that it must be prearranged. If you wake up and don't feel like coming to work, then you are absent, not "working from home."

I will email you the form we use.

We were allowed to telecommute one day per week. With the increase in gasoline and evidence that the one day per week was working well, it has now been increased to twice per week. The schedule is worked out at the department level to ensure that we have people in the office each day. Almost everyone in our product development group is participating and appreciate the company's willingness to be flexible.

Does this work for all positions? What about the positions where logging into company systems is required to do job? Thanks.

We are considering allowing a work from home 1 day a week as well as putting some groups on variable 4-day weeks.
Do you have any form you use to "formalize" this arrangement with employees

We allow one telecommute day, but it would be dependent on the departments needs and is primarily offered to exempt individuals. In addition to telecommuting, we are now offering 4/10 hour work days and flexible scheduling for our non-exempt employees. The requirement for flexible scheduling is to work one hour extra for four days and take half a day off on a five day work week. A critical component to any of these plans is the employee must have been employed for at least 6 months and have not had any performance issues during this time frame.
It has been received well and is working out for all departments.

Henrib,

Would you mind sharing your documents with me for your 4/10 and flexible work arrangement plans? We are looking at doing both as well and re-inventing the wheel isn't working all that well. It sounds like your company has it figured out and it's working well for you. I'd appreciate your help. debbie.mitchell@velocitycu.com

We are currently in the process of creating flexible work arrangements, however creating a formalize process is timeconsuming, if anyone has any documents that they could share it would be helpful. egibson@apgfcu.com

All of our employees accrue annual leave. If they work 4/10's and the state only pays 8 hours for a holiday. Do you require your employees to use 2 hours of their leave to cover the extra hours?

We require them to either make up the 2 hours, or use their leave time or they can dock pay for 2 hours.

How do you handle if a 2-day holiday (such as Thanksgiving and the day after & Christmas and the day after)? Do you require the employee's to make up the time the following week, requiring them to work a 5 day week or require them to work approx. 13 hour days for that week?

Are you allowing non-exempt staff to telecommute? If so, what parameters are you setting for them?
