$6.6 Million Grant Intended to Help Laid-Off Workers
Michigan will receive a $6.6 million grant to help workers affected by auto industry layoffs and closures, the U.S. Department of Labor announced Thursday, June 5.

The grant, which includes an initial release of $2,475,000, will provide workers with re-employment assistance such as training, assessment, counseling and case management.

Last month, the state was awarded a $16 million Labor Department grant through its Trade Adjustment Assistance program, which is designed to help workers affected by global trade. Those who are certified as TAA-eligible may receive up to two years of income support, a health coverage tax credit, and help with job search and relocation expenses.

Additionally, Michigan auto workers may qualify for a $1.5 million Career Advancement Account demonstration project that the state is operating.
