Hi!
I work for an Internet Startup based out of Bangalore, India. We have recently become operational in the US and I am having to out in place some basic policies and gosh, I don't know where to start!!
Would really appreciate any help. Where do I start, How do I get hold of some "draft" copies of policies( is it O.K to ask for it?)
and what next ?

Try your local library for policies and procedure manuals. Also look online. A great website: ceoexpress has provides a list of on-line library services. Also see if anyone you know will share ideas from their employee manuals with them.

Hi Ramya

Are you asking policies for US or India.For US you might need some relocation policies specifying travel entitlements, visa requirements, bonds if any & finally entitlements. I suggest meet some of the multinationals
having offices in bangalore & check with them their policies. Become member of the compensation club in Bnagalore & you'll have people sharing their plans.

As far as other local policies are concerned you can draft simple policies on yr own by referring to policy manual s of some other companies.You need to undertake some survey as well.

Initially focus on the following :

1. Travel policy & entitlement.
2. Leave & attendance system .


Take inputs from yr line managers . They may come up with excellent ideas on other policies.
