Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to do or die. We as HR professionals cannot hold each employee's hand to help ensure they have a comfortable retirement. What we can do is provide education and materials so that they have the opportunity to make choices based on their circumstances. In every 401k planning meeting, you can turn blue explaining the advantages of participating in such a plan. And either the employees will take it or not. And since it is still such a political issue at this point in time, any mention by you that SS will not be in existence opens up a vigorous discussion of politics. More and more companies are using the services of financial planners to assist their employees in setting up their 401k funds and in addition, looking at their personal situation to help them build a secure financial future.

So continue educating your employees and those that take advantage of it will hopefully be in a more comfortable position. But you can't lose sleep over the retirement outcome of every employee, you do the best you can with the most information.
