Donating to anothers PTO bank

We have a situation come up where we have an employee with a serious health condition and has used up all of their paid time off and other employees are volunteering to donate some of their PTO.
I would like to know if anyone has come across this and what did you do? Also, do some of you have a policy on this? I'm just worried that by doing it for one employee, we will have to offer this to others. I would appreciate any help you can give

We have the PTO donation plan where employees can donate time to someone that has depleted their PTO and they are still out on FML. They donate hours, not pay. They can remain unnamed or we will let the person receiving the time that it was donated by XX. This has worked well for us. We don't solicit for donated time, only by word of mouth.
