We're looking for some creative ways to minimize our health insurance costs. One of the more intriguing ones I've come across is partial self funding. This involves contracting with a carrier for health insurance with deductibles of as much as $1,000 per ee; the partial self funding comes from the company paying out the difference between the employee's deductible (let's say its $200) and the $1,000 policy deductible.
Has anyone had any experience with this type of program? It appears to be a low cost self fund with a built in stop loss but I'd like to hear some real life experiences with it. Thanks in advance! |

I'd be surprised if this type of plan saved you much because I would guess the premiums you pay will still be pretty high, but I don't have any recent experience to back this up. However, you may want to consider full sef-funding of your dental and vision plans. We've been doing this for 5 years now and continue to save a LOT over paying full premiums. It's very nice to have control over the plan design and not be at the mercer of fickle insurance companies. Good luck! |
