IF AN EMPLOYEE WHO WAS INSURED WAS FIRED ON FRIDAY (NOT GROSS MISCONDUCT), RECEIVED THE COBRA LETTER UPON TERMINATION BUT DID NOT RETURN THE LETTER TO THE EMPLOYER AND BREAK THEIR ARM ON SATURDAY, ARE THEY STILL COVERED UNDER THE INSURANCE POLICY(ASSUMING THE INSURANCE POLICY WOULD PAY 100% WITH NO COINSURANCE) OR WOULD THEY HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET AND THEN BE REIMBURSED IF THEY ELECT COBRA. PLEASE NOTE: WITH OUR COMPANY'S INSURANCE POLICY THE DATE YOU ARE TERMINATED IS THE DATE YOU POLICY IS CANCELLED. IF THE FIRED PERSON WAS TO TRY TO GO TO THE PHARMACIST THE NEXT DAY THEY WOULD NOT BE COVERED. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANY ASSISTANCE

When this happens to me, I tell the hopital or doc, that the employee's insurance is in limbo, pending their COBRA election. I have never had a problem.

I would like to piggyback on the first response. That is a good way of handling it because the employees have 60 days to respond.
When that situation has happened to me, the former employee immediately elects to continue the coverage and gives me the premium so that it can be sent to the insurance company to speed up their enrollment of COBRA benefits.
