401(k) - Brokerage Window of Funds

My company is looking to put in a Self-Directed Brokerage account and attach it to our 401(k) Plan. This would allow participants to select from a wide array of funds (400 or so). My concern is that this may be too risky for a 401(k) plan and may put our company in jeopardy of being sued someday. Especially if someone loses $$ from one of these funds. And there are too many funds to educate employees on.

Does any have any information about doing this? I am looking for the pros and cons to consider. Thanks.

You really need to be careful to provide serious education and document the education you provided. I would also offer asset allocation portfolios, ie. aggressive, moderate, conservative. You can educate employees about these and hope they go there, the more aggessive will choose the brokerage accounts but you will probably have the less educated choose the pre-built portfolios.
