Recruting and retaining nurses in Singapore Hospitals

I'm doing a project on recruiting and retaining nurses in Singapore. In Singapore, we face an acute shortage of nurses and had to look overseas for nurses. Turnover in the 10 over hospitals here is also pretty high because not many like to take up this profession. Recently, British hospitals have advertised to recruit nurses from the labor-tight market here. What are the retention strategies that can be applied in retaining these group of nurses. What kind of benefits are hospitals in US paying to attract and retain them? Comparatively, is the compensation and benefits package as competitive as those in the commercial industry? Many say that paying an attractive base salary do help but salary alone may not be a driving factor. I would appreciate if someone could share with me what schemes do US hospital adopt to retain the valuable human assets. Many Thanks!
