Our management would like to offer a loose vacation policy where the number of days is not stipulated. It is up to the discretion of the supervisor and as long as the salaried employee doesn't take more than one week at a time off, it doesn't need to be approved. What should be in writing here? Do they need to keep track of their hours for wage and hour laws? In addition, do employee-shareholders have to record their hours worked? Has anyone else heard of this before?

Kapitan -
I was reading a back issue of the Washingtonian magazine yesterday and a similar policy was discussed for the Motley Fool company. Maybe their HR department could be of help .... it doesn't sound like a foolish idea & it helped them to be selected as one of the best companies to work for in D.C.

I would like to hear more about the progress of your vacation policy, kapitan. If anyone has any info to share in regards to creating such a policy, please let us know.
