Which employee do you mean? I have a number of employees who don't use any. I had one who had used her entire allotment for the year by the end of January. If you average it out, I guess in my experience it comes to 2-3. |

Oops, my apologies (not specifically posted below). I've read and heard that it depends on the size of the company. Some employers choose to have sick and vacation accrue monthly. I think the average number of sick days per year is about eight, minimum of five. My company is a young hi-tech company with less than 20 employees, and currently we grant 5 days per year. And again, some employers use Paid Time Off (PTO) in place of "sick days". Usually this accrues monthly (for example, 0.5 days per month) and the employees can take the PTO for their own sick time, spousal/family emergencies, funeral leave, or to take care of personal business even. |

It varies depending on industry, job type (exempt/hourly), unionized or not. Industries that offer fewer days have less utilization and those that offer more (utilities, government) have higher rates. No suprises here! From my experience across all industries the average is 4-5 days used/yr. |
