I am curious as to what is the common practive for a small sized company to offer its employees regarding dependents and family members in helath insurance. What percentage is average for an employee to pay to cover family members?

While I do not have an answer to this question at present, I wanted to let you know that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's 2000 Employee Benefits Study will provide an answer. Based on input from HR profressionals, the 2000 survey asks what percentage of the healthcare premium the company pays for the employee, for the employee's spouse, for a single dependant child, and for family coverage. The results should be cross-tabulated by company size in the Study report.

I recently went through a search to find better and less-expensive for our still growing small business. There was never a question as to whether we would offer coverage for dependents. Currently
the company pays 50% of the monthly premium and the other half is deducted equally from the employees paychecks each month. We are with united health Care and for a family I pay approx. $80 per pay check.
