I am looking for ideas for making this year's open enrollment for benefits successful. I want to encourage high attendance, as well as provide easy to understand information about our benefits plan. Furthermore, I would love this open enrollment to serve a secondary function of creating goodwill with the employees. I am new to this company, and think this will be my first real opportunity to be perceived as knowledgeable, and approachable.

You didn't mention size of company or whether there were multiple locations...both of which can impact strategy & attendance. There's always the option of offering incentives for attending...door prizes and such, or free pizza lunch, a coaxing out of the cubicles. Another option is to explore the 'entertainment value' of the presentation...a staged gameshow where the questions/answers are pertinent, that sort of thing. Sounds like you'd like to 'get out and mingle' so to speak, and would like the ees to interact as well. For the presentation end, keep it simple, they'll want the basics...copay, deductible, out of pocket...if it's a PPO or HMO, you'll need to 'sell' the network as well. If you offer different plans from which to choose, a comparison of benes between the two will be important...cost, benes, network...

If you have employees who pay for parking at work or a a commuter lot or have employees who use mass transit / van pools. You can offer a Qualified Transportation Benefits program, outsourced to QTB Services (www.qtbservices.com)will be a no cost to the employer with a great benefit to the employee. QTB does the administration and keeps it simple for the employer and employee in all locations throughout the USA.

Why not partner with the company's benefit(s) provider? You could meet with him/her prior to your kickoff meeting. This will not only assist you in gaining knowledge but the confidence to go solo the next time around. Open enrollment is a great time to "host the party." Talk it up. Hype it up with posters, emails notifications, a poem, whatever. Have small party gift bags filled with candy and a toy(s) for your new enrollees. You'll take on another role in the company, one of a cheerleader. Just have fun with it! Good luck, and reach for that 100%!

Group meetings allow employees to learn about their benefits without reading, but most employers find that the meetings are poorly attended and time-consuming. For employees in scattered sites, group meetings may not be practical and the quality of the meetings will vary based on the meeting leaders.
Interactive Voice Response (IVR) and WEB based self service systems are proliferating and are excellent for recording decisions or reporting account balances. However, they cannot educate employees about their benefits, help prepare them to make decisions, or affect their attitudes towards benefits.

BenefitVision's unique benefit communication process allows employees to receive a personalized benefit orientation, either one-on-one, via the telephone or internet regardless of where they're located. We enroll employees on their own time, so employees don't have to take time off the job. We ensure consistent benefit communication to all employees.
Employees really understand their choices and how to utilize all of their benefits and retirement savings. Outsourcing enrollment to us saves your company time and money. Our clients will attest to our success. Please contact me for further information.
