Is anyone still using the Cafeteria Plans touted in the late 80's and early 90's: total combination of time off and beneftis where the employee get "dollars" to spend in any fashion for benefits, including adding to the vacation time off? |

This was something we were hoping to implement for our employees (300), but found that the extra time to administer the plan, combined with the fact that users would be spending far more in specific areas (such as orthodontics) made the costs involved unreasonable.
Be sure to survey other companies that provide this option, you may be better off giving higher wages! |

We are working with companies on something called a VEMA. It allows employer and employee contributions, but unlike a cafateria plan it allows employees to invest unused funds in mutual funds that grow tax free for unreimbursed health and welfare expenses--post or pre retirement. You can also monetize unused v/c or sick days and put them in the plan.
