What is typical for a waiting period for a newhire before they are eligible to receive holiday pay? Right now we have a 90 day waiting period and have been getting many complaints (and I tend to agree) that this is a little too long.

Our agency grants holiday pay immediately except for substitutes. We may delay the start date if holiday(s) are too near.

I've only worked in places where holiday pay was paid immediately as they fell on the calendar. Never heard of a place that didn';t pay for holidays unless it was a position that had no benefits at all (like retail, for ex.)

I think it's much more typical to offer holiday pay in the same manner as you offer the rest of your "benefit package"----typically at the conclusion of your initial eval period.

Our new hires are eligible right away. Sometimes this affects our new hire "start" date since we try not to start someone the week of a paid holiday!

Why wait? Our company offers 12 paid holidays per year. With the tight labor market (in our industry), one of our main selling points to prospective employees is the benefit package. We don't worry about holidays when we hire a new employee - where it falls it falls.

We use 30 days. If you change it, make sure you go back to include ee's that began in the past 60 days to be included.
