Do you pay the same percentage of the total premium for family and couple coverage as you do for single coverage?

My company pays 50% of the monthly premium for our medical and dental insurance. It is the same for single, double or family coverage.

We pay 100% of the health & dental premiums for our employees. This is for both single & family coverage. However, for employees who work less than 30 hours per week, the company pays 50% and the employee pays 50%. (our med/den benefit starts at 16 hours per week as we have a weekend shift that is 2 8-hour days).

We pay 50% for employee, employee spouse, employee child and family for one of our companies. The other company we pay 100% on employee and the employee must make up the difference on spouse, child & family. You may want to check what other companies in your industry pay.

I just left a job in the insurance industry where I worked with hundreds of employers to design benefit programs. I have seen that it really depends on the organization. Most generous employers tend to pay 100% of both employee and dependent costs. However, there is still a large majority of employers who only pay the premium for the employees at a hundred percent but share in the cost of dependent premiums.

we pay 100% of individual coverage for medical, dental, and vision.
we pay 50% of family coverage for dental and vision.
for family coverage, we pay the individual dollar amount and the employee pays the difference.
we only have individual and family rates, no emp+1...

We believe the employee should share in the cost. For 2001, the company will pay 85% of employee only, 60-63% of employee plus dependents for the medical/dental/prescription drug program.
