Time off for school conferences/activities required in FL?

In Illinois this was a policy the company I worked for had in place. I can not remember if it was a federal or state law just in Illinois. I think it had to do with FMLA somehow, but I can not remembe

Time off for school conferences/activities required in FL?

In Illinois this was a policy the company I worked for had in place. I can not remember if it was a federal or state law just in Illinois. I think it had to do with FMLA somehow, but I can not remember.

Does anyone know if it is federal or state? If state, does it apply in Florida?

"XYZ Company understands the need for its employees who are parents to attend school conferences and/or other classroom activities that cannot be scheduled during non-working hours. Therefore, XYZ Company will allow up to eight (8) hours of unpaid parental leave each school year for employees to attend such school functions. However, no more than four (4) hours may be taken on any given day."
