12/26 & 1/2: Holidays where you work?

I'm updating our holiday schedule and am wondering what others are doing...
December 26th and the January 2nd are Fridays. Are those days considered holidays where you work? Are employees asked to

25th and 26th are PH as is 1 Jan but not 2 Jan. As we are 24x7 we pay penalty loading on these days. Employees need to apply to have Jan 2 off and leave will be granted depending on staffing levels to demand forecast.

It is obvious that the "actual" holidays are normally paid. Any day before or after that fact is treated simply: Give the employee an option of taking a "vacation" day or...as I prefer, if they want it off badly enough: A day off w/out pay...works for both sides. They get day off and company doesn't lose financially.
Of course, you'd have to temper that with how many people ya need in office to keep things running! Can't give everyone time off on the same day!

It is not a holiday at our facility. We are a manufacturing plant so the employees have the option to take paid personal time, paid vacation time or if they do not have either of those, they will be off without pay. During the year they are encouraged to save some sort of time for these dates. It just is not worth starting up all the machinery for one day and shutting it back down for the weekend.

They are both mandatory PTO days for us.

Both are regular work days for my company. Employees can opt to schedule paid time off if they want. We take the 10 federal holidays, regardless of what day it falls on. I was very happy to see that since July 4th falls on a Saturday for 2009, July 3rd will be the federal holiday! Gotta love those long weekends!

We're granting both as paid holidays. But then we're normally only open a half day on Fridays anyway. Not worth coming in for four hours.

a little late for this yr, but here is what we do. we are a small company and have flexibility-but i got the idea from a large insurance firm where i used to work. if a holiday falls on a tuesday or thursday, we give the monday or friday as paid vacation as well. We always give the friday after thanksgiving. for independence day, we often will give the extra day, but we don't post it in our holiday schedule, we decide closer to the actual holidsy whether schedule and workload permits us to give the extra day.
