Unfortunately, this post could get all kinds of responses. I'll repost one of my responses from a different forum:
I lump wellness programs into 3 groups:
1. Ineffective
2. Moderately effective
3. Highly effective
Unfortunately, most wellness programs fall into the first category - ineffective. Some characteristics of these programs are minimal senior management support, weak corporate wellness culture, no formal strategy, low participation, minimal or no employee incentives and most impotantly, little or minimal investment per employee (think $2 per employee per month).
In contrast, a highly effective program, if designed properly, should have complete senior management support and engagement, a strong corporate culture that promotes wellness, objectives that are understood by all employees, almost total participation, strong incentives for results and have a modest invest per employee (think $10 - $15 per month).
I'm also a firm believer that personal coaching has to be part of the program. People aren't going to lose weight or exercise more by reading online articles at their desk.
So the question comes down to - how willing is your senior management to support this program?
