Ive worked for companies who had $20K+ relo packages and ones who paid nothing. As far as I can see the main factors are how tough is the skill set to find, and whats the available pool of applicants in the work area. I suppose the desirability of the area where the job is located would be a factor as well, but youd normally deal with that in the comp package. The distance the candidate will have to move dictates many of the factors.
Im currently looking for a rather specialize position which will probably involve a relo. We will likely reimburse expenses up to a grand on this one. We did $500 on another position which we could have possibly been filled locally, but it was worth the $ to get a good person quickly. Bear in mind this is the non-profit world. Back during the Dot.com boom when I relocated a lot of people I did use a 3rd party vendor . They really earned their fees on the more complicated moves involving home sales, moving and storage, spousal assistance and such. Once you get beyond basic expense reimbursement Id still be tempted to farm it out because it can be such a time-eater. |
