I was hired to replace them at my company. Basically, after my salary, I saved the company $80k per year. It's been more than 3 years and I don't regret pulling our company out of the relationship.

I will say they are expensive UNLESS you use all of their options to the max. When I polled our employees, there were many options we were paying for that the employees never used.

I also found them to not be as knowledgeable as I expected them to be (yes, I have high expectations)...but if you are going to supply HR/benefits, you need your employees that you put in front of clients to be up on the latest and the best. The client has to get something for paying that premium price.

It did scare me how much was "hidden" and never told to our company until we left...especially on the 401k plan side. I would honestly steer clear of their in- house 401k administration even if I chose them to do everything else. The company is still as liable as an employer....for decisions that the PEO makes (this confirmed via the DOL).

Just my thoughts. Like I said in another post, I do think there is a place for PEOs. But a solid HR person with links to consulting firms and resources can do as good a job, imho.

There are lots of ways for outsource companies to make money, but most often the biggest one is hiring a lower level of employee at correspondingly lower levels of pay and benefits than the outsourcing company would hire to do the work inhouse. The comment above about Administaff's lack of knowledge is not a surprise.
