A few questions that I would appreciate your guidance on.
Construction worker is sent from the job site to run errands and pick up supplies as home improvement store throughout their workday; do you pay mileage? Do you pay them for their time (hourly rate)?
Construction worker is asked to, on their way home from work after their shift has ended, to stop by the office/work yard to pick up/drop off tools; do you pay mileage? Do you pay them for their time (hourly rate)?
Secondary to the above question – Construction worker is asked to, on their way home from work after their shift has ended, to stop by the office/work yard to pick up/drop off tools and bring them to the job site the next day; do you pay them mileage and if yes, from what point to what point?
Any information is greatly appreciated.

I would consider the employee on the clock for all of those activities and our company would also reimburse mileage.

Legally, this employee is on the clock in all of the scenarios you've described.
Regarding mileage, you'd only have to pay that if you're in California or Massachusetts. However, if it were up to me, I'd pay it anyway (and I'm not in either of those states).

I agree with the other two that all of this falls under worktime under the FLSA and would HAVE to be paid time especially since it seems to be required by the employer.
As to paying mileage, I agree that the employer should but in most states is not required to do so.

Unless the worker is driving a company-owned vehicle, I would definitely pay mileage

I would also keep in mind of the liability that will fall on the company if he is injured in an automobile accident while running these errands. And yes, it would be prudent to pay him his hourly rate and mileage.

I am in MA. He is on the clock so we would pay his time and unless he is driving a company owned vehicle, we would pay him mileage.
