I am interested in learning which ratio others use to determine compare/benchark overall compensation levels

1. Salary and Benefit Expense as a Percentage of Net Revenue

or

2. Salary and Benefit Expense as a Percentage of Total Expense

What do you believe to be industry averages in these areas?

What sources for benchmarking/comparison have you found to be useful?

Particulary interested in healthcare industry practices and comparisons.

The "BEST" way to compare compensation is to do a survey of your peer companies for the jobs you are concerned about Everything else is just quess work.
