I am looking for suggestions from compaines who have done their own dependent eligibility audit for health insurance. Specifically looking for anyone who has had success with an online database where birth, marriage, and divorce certificates are accessible and accurate. Thanks.

Why would you want to take this task away from your insurance carrier? How many employees do you have?

We have about 1,600 employees. Do the insurance carriers typically do this audit or is it part of a contract? Thanks.

Well, you have 1600 employees, so it's a little bit of a different story. A lot of posters on here are from smaller companies and it wouldn't make sense when factoring in opportunity cost.
Are you fully-insured or self-insured? I think it's worth having the discussion with your insurance company to see what functions they can perform. I know there are companies out there that you can hire to conduct these audits, but they grossly exaggerate the savings they can deliver. Insurance carriers are doing a much better job monitoring eligibility, although it can get cloudy when it comes to qualifying events due to marriages (actually the employer's responsibility to ask for a marriage certificate) and divorces (again, the employer's responsibility to let the carrier know).

Thank you. Any experience with the online databases of public records? Not having luck at all with any of them, either due to no response or information coming back completely inaccurate. I realize the database concept is not completely reliable due to information not being updated, etc. but if you have any information on a reliable source I'd appreciate it.

Dependent Check is one outside firm I recollect hearing/reading about. If you google "dependent eligibility audit" a number of firms come up. I would check with your medical carrier to see if they have a relationship with any vendors as well, since your region could definitely be a factor. I would also think that hiring a third party to perform the function would be your best option.
