Will companies that don't normally close on New Years Eve be closing on New Years Eve in 2010?

Will companies that don't normally close on Christmas Eve be closing on Christmas Eve 2010.

Will companies be closing on both?

We take a one week paid holiday shutdown for the Christmas holiday and will likely be closed starting Friday, December 24th and then back on Monday, January 3rd.

I think most company policies specify taking either the day before or after when a holiday falls on a weekend. If you traditionally take off Christmas and the Christmas Eve, it would seem logical to take both Friday and Monday.

This last year, when July 4th fell on a Saturday, we reworked our holiday calendar such that the employee got an extra holiday around the 1st of the year instead of doing the Friday before. It just worked better for our business. They still ended up with the same total # of days though.

It just so happens we published our 2010 holiday calendar this week. Since our company gives 2 days holiday for Christmas, they will be giving Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th, and of course Friday 12/31/10 for New Years.

We normally close a half day on Christmas Eve and a full day on Christmas. Next year we will be closing on Christmas Eve, and giving employees a half day on the 23rd.

We normally close on New Year's Day, not on New Year's Eve but in 2010 we will close on New Year's Eve.
