We have always paid weekly but want to move to bi-weekly payroll. We have both union and non-union employees (have already checked cba). Any one else do this and how did you handle the first week of no pay? So many people have scheduled bills paying from their bank accounts and are accustomed to weekly payroll.

I have not moved from weekly to bi-weekly, but did move from twice a month to bi-weekly.

I does cause chaos and consternation amongst various employees. So the best advice I can give is to give plenty of notice and to communicate.

I think face-to-face meetings is the best thing to do. Group settings worked well for us, but we are small - 100 employees.

We also prepared a customized notice so each employee would see what their individual paycheck looked like when it was changed and helped them understand that the pay over the pace of a year was the same, it was just a matter of budgeting the time frames differently.

I can tell you that the idea of moving from one week to two weeks will cause no end of confusion for quite a few of your folks.

I agree with plenty of notice and multiple different kinds -- paycheck stub stuffers, emails, letter to home, etc.

Beyond that, you might consider a small advance that could be paid off over the next few checks. A pain, but sometimes worth the goodwill of employees.

We switched from a weekly to a bi-weekly payroll about 6 months ago. Of course we had the multiple complaints from hourly employees because they did not like this arrangement. I would suggest giving ample time (say around 2 months) for employees to make adjustments before the switch. I don't like the idea of an advance because what if the employee quits? Sure you can take it out their final check but what if they don't work enough that pay period to cover it?
