From your experience, would an organization pay for executive coaching services that specialize in working with the members of their management team who go on disability leave, especially STD beneficiaries? Please read on and share any insight that you may have for me.
I am an Executive Coach and Master's Level Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. I was previously employed assisting workers with injuries to return to work through the assistance of their worker's comp and no fault carriers. I recently founded and now manage a non-profit that assists people with disabilities through the fl dept of voc rehab. I would like my for-profit enterprise to focus on serving executives who find themselves on disability leave and the corporations that wish to retain them. I would prefer to be paid directly by the organizations instead of insurance carriers for numerous reasons. My focus is beyond disability management and involves keeping the executives' GPS (goals, passions and strengths) fully engaged and focused on the organization during their leave, as much as their condition allows. This continued engagement reduces the risk of depression, a secondary disability that slows down recovery and return to work. Thank you for your consideration.

Honestly, it sounds like a very limited field with a very specific population...that is, executives who get disabled. Let's just say that the top 10% of ees in a company are executives....out of those 10%, how many (actuarially) get disabled in any give time period?
Most companies have, at least, specific pay plans and benefits to insure their executives and to provide certain benefits in death, disability, retirement, etc.
And at the risk of sounding biased, many times the disabled executive won't be able to return to the position they once held. They at a minimum will need career coaching, but I don't know a whole lot of companies who are (in this economy especially) going to want to spend extra direct benefit dollars on a program such as this. They might fund an insurance benefit to provide for it...but I just don't see many being willing to pay you directly.
Wish I had a better perspective though. I would love to be able to do something like this for an executive, but I suspect it would be cost prohibitive.

Thank you for your candor. If you ever do find a company with innovative practices for disability leave or maternity leave, please post here

p.s. Just so you dont' think I am some random poster, I worked for one of the major HR consulting firms and in my last few years there, I was on the Executive Benefits team and dealt with all the Executive Benefits at a very large chemical company in the Houston area. It's been a few years since I was with that firm, but that chemical company was rather innovative and growing by leaps and bounds and still chose to go the insurance route.
