Expanded Benefits for PT EE's / smart retention investment?

I recently saw an interesting article regarding offering partial health/welfare benefits to PT EE's and see that it may be a good investment to keep quality trained folks connected to the organization. No way to predict for sure, but we believe '10 should be a better business year and thus if we retain this talent we will be better able to respond appropriately. Has anyone done this before and can share best practices? I am thinking that it is valuable, but also fraught with challenge as we deal with a whole new slate of cost / compliance / fairness issues.

I was in retail for a while and employed a lot of P/T staff. Health insurance is a huge issue to some, but not all of these people. We did however, lose employees to chains that offered some form of coverage. I hear that âMiniâMedâ plans are popular with companies employing part timers.
