We recently switched health insurance carriers. This new carrier utilizes a TPA for their enrollments. One of my employees did not give SSNs for her dependent children due to privacy issues. This was never an issue with any of the other carriers.
We are now being told by the TPA that the SSNs are required for Medicare reasons.

Is this information truly required? Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes it is a new mandate. Our carrier requested the same information from us.

I've also always had to provide that information on medical plans. It has always been on our enrollment forms.
