I'm drafting a new dress code and I am looking for some examples/verbage from other companies to get some ideas and a jumpstart.
Any input appreciated! Thanks!

Ours is very specific:
Employees shall maintain a professional appearance and proper hygiene while on the job and representing the company in the community. All staff is required to dress in a manner appropriate to their work environment using good common sense and commonly accepted dress standards.
(We provide a causal dress atmosphere.)
Inappropriate dress for the work environment includes:
Provocative clothing
Backless dresses
Shorts
Excessively short skirts (shorter than 5" above the knee)
Tank tops
Clothing with holes, tears or rips or that which is dirty or stained
Bare feet
Inappropriately labeled/designed attire including but not limited to: profanity, discriminatory words/symbols/pictures, provacative symbols/pictures and gang-related words/symbols/pictures.
Sweatsuits
If any employee reports to work improperly dressed or groomed, the Supervisor or Manager of HR may instruct the employee to leave work for a change into the appropriate attire. This time away from work will not be paid.
Infractions of the dress code will result in disciplinary action.

Thanks. This will give me a great start.
We've had a lot of flip-flops and bippy tops (shirts showing bellybuttons) showing up in the ranks. Frankly, I am shocked. It's like they are on a camping trip!

Be prepared to hear a LOT of complaints regarding this change. Some of them may be reasonable. If so, make the amendment but if not, hold your ground. The company has the right to determine how they want the corporate image to be expressed. (If you want to give me your fax number I'll send you our business casual policy.)

Some Guidelines for Casual Fridays
Footwear - Loafers, boots, flats, dress sandals, leather deck shoes and clean athletic shoes are acceptable. Dirty athletic shoes and slippers are not acceptable.
Slacks - Clean jeans and cotton slacks are acceptable. Inappropriate attire includes: sweatpants, shorts, bib overalls, spandex, lycra or other form-fitting pants and jeans that are excessively worn or faded.
Shirts - Casual shirts, golf shirts, sweaters and turtlenecks are acceptable. Please avoid T-shirts, tank tops, shirts with inappropriate messages/graphics and tops with bare shoulders, unless worn under a blouse/shirt or jacket.
Dresses and skirts - Casual dresses and skirts are acceptable. Skirt lengths should be appropriate for an office environment. Spaghetti-strap dresses should not be worn to the office.
A general guideline for office attire is: if you have any doubt about the appropriate or inappropriateness of an article of clothing, dont wear it.

I have several dress guide lines email me and I'll fax them over. Currently I work for a company that does not have a dress code and the guide lines that I am referring to are only on hardcopy jpa

Hi. I'm in the same situation of trying to write a dress code. I would appreciate any copies you could also fax to me. My fax number is 214-348-5852. Thanks so much for your assistance.
